Sony Ericsson's W800 is the company's first Walkman branded mobile phone. Sony Ericsson has wisely chosen to make use of the Sony Walkman brand, one of the best known brands in the world as far as mobile music devices are concerned.

The W800 comes with a 512 MB Duo Card and can handle up to a 2 GB card.

Based almost entirely on the already amazing Sony Ericsson K750i, the W800 has enough features to appeal to music lovers, photographers, and general gadget lovers alike. To start with, the W800 has a bright 262k-color display that has a 176 x 220 pixel resolution. The display is reflective enough to make it easily readable in harsh sunlight. The chromed softkeys and joystick offer both good feel as well as good looks. The main keypad, however, is one of the few weak points of the device, being a bit too stiff for my liking.

Sony Ericsson has made it especially easy to get to your music. A dedicated play/pause button on the left side of the phone will start and stop your music no matter what you are currently doing. The button directly above the joystick will take you to the Walkman music application, which is as full-featured a media player as you are likely to find. The player is very well laid out and organizes your music by track, album, and artist. You can also create your own track lists, fast forward and rewind the current track, and even watch video clips. If you prefer to get your music over the airwaves, you can make use of the built-in FM radio instead.

The W800 comes with a special earbud headset that allows you to use your own stereo headphones. The earbuds can be disconnected from the clip-on microphone to expose a regular 3.5mm headset jack, the same kind used by most other audio devices. This means you have your choice of headphones, yet still can make and take calls hands-free.

Zoom into the action with the W800's 2.0 MP camera.

The W800's camera has a real autofocusing lens mated to a very capable CMOS camera sensor, all backed up by real digital camera ergonomics and a proper user interface. To activate the camera you just slide the switch on the back of the phone that hides the protective lens, turn the W800 90 degrees, and put your finger on the dedicated shutter button. A light press on the shutter will focus the image, and a full press will take the photo--just as with any dedicated camera. The volume rocker works as a digital zoom control when in camera mode, and the camera's UI will have you thinking you are using a regular camera. But it is the image quality that really clinches the deal. While the photos might be a tad behind a top-class digital camera in terms of resolution and image quality, they are on par with many digital cameras on the market.

Our test W800 had over 32 MB of internal storage available and shipped with a 512 MB Memory Stick Duo card. The card slot on the W800 can support cards of up to 2 GB in capacity, which should satisfy most people. Battery life was fantastic in our test, topping 10.5 hours of talk time. Sony Ericsson claims that the W800 can play up to 15 hours of music with the phone in standby, or up to 30 hours with the phone subsystem turned off.

In the end, the Sony Ericsson W800 offers about as much functionality and entertainment value as you can find today in a 3.5oz (100g) package. At this time there is simply nothing available that can top it.

There is a slide switch on the side which locks the keys on the front.
It easily gets flicked in your pocket or if you swivel the phone open it unlocks.
Also the walk man button is on the front and you will be walking along the street and music starts playing in your pocket. There are times when this is not good.
Dont want to sound too negative, everything else is great but Amazon reviews are meant to point out these type of defects.

I bought this phone because it had Walkman FM radio, too. This phone is pretty (I got the PINK one), lightweight, has lots of whiz-bang menu selections, but doesn't wow or impress me as much as the Samsung A737 or Samsung A747 models which I bought for my children. I listen to the radio a lot, more than MP3s and really thought this feature would be cool. If you like effects, it has 16 settings for flashing light patterns customized for every caller. It takes a day to find out how to set the patterns in all the menus....

The keypad is a bit on the small side, and feel like dry plastic. It's OK for me because I have small hands, but I don't think a man would enjoy using the small, non-descript keys. The letters on the keys are hard to see being so small. When I enter text, I still have to look--er, squint--at the keypad. I don't pay for texting service, so it's not a huge hassle, but if you text, I can't imagine it would be much fun.

When I enter an phone number in the address book, it doesn't put hyphens between the area code, prefix, and last four digits. That's not fatal, but a pet peeve, and makes it difficult for me to figure out the numbers as they come up.

The M2 Memory Stick is not common, but Sony Ericsson uses it. They supply a 512MB one. Buying one with more memory will not be cheap. The access slot is on the top. It took me a while to figure out how to open the little, flat plastic door. Which side to open? It doesn't have a flap, can't open with a fingernail, so I use an unfolded paper clip or other similar-sized object to pry it open.

You need the wired earphones to have FM service. If you like radio, it's just one more thing to carry around. The sound quality is EXCELLENT on this wire unit and the ear buds very comfy. It also works as "handsfree" phone device if you don't want to do Bluetooth.

The display, although narrow, is bright and sharp. The sound is good, and it interfaces well with my Bluetooth earpiece and Palm device. The phone is very lightweight and slim. I dropped it a few times but the case didn't scratch or crack. The pink IS pretty, and has little red "jewels" between the number keys (other color models have different color jewels). The speaker phone option works well and is clear to hear. The slider is a little unusual to work at first, but works very nicely. Sony Ericsson phone support is SUPER, too.

1. Hape menjadi mati total akibat ada salah satu data hilang atau karena tempat media penyimpanan data rusak. Karena semua data operasional hape terdapat di memori internal.
2. Hang. Jika data-data terlalu penuh di memori internal akibatnya program tidak dapat diproses oleh CPU karena data terlalu padat. Akhirnya kinerja hape lambat dan tidak optimal.
3. Up close (hapus sebagian data). Tulisan ini muncul saat kita akan menyimpan data apapun di dalam hape. Atau bahkan saat kita akan membuka menu hape muncul tulisan tersebut. Kerusakan ini disebabkan file sampah sudah menumpuk di dalam memori internal.
4. Blink. Hape blink adalah dimana hape tidak dapat loading atau booting ke menu. 1. Blank atau tidak ada bentuk tampilan. Karena ada jalur yang terputus, resolusi cairan LCD sudah rusak, atau bisa juga karena kurang terkoneksi ke mesin hape. Biasanya disebabkan karena jatuh sehingga konektor bergeser atau terputus jalur pada kabel fleksible di hape clamshell.
2. LCD pecah karena benturan keras, terjatuh atau tertekan. Untuk LCD pecah ini sudah pasti harus diganti. Semakin canggih atau langka layar LCD, maka semakin mahal harganya.
3. Ada garis pada layar. Kerusakan ini tidak begitu fatal jika garis tersebut hanya ada satu. Tetapi jika terdapat lebih dari 5 garis dan posisinya di tengah akan cukup mengganggu.

1. Jangan sering nge-charge dalam kondisi hape hidup. Bila hape di-charge dalam keadaan mati, saat batere penuh maka pengisian akan dihentikan oleh IC charger yang bertugas mengontrol pengisian batere. Tapi bila dalam kondisi hidup, jadi nggak efektif dan bisa membuat IC charge rusak dan membuat batere rusak karena tegangan charger menjadi los (tanpa penghambat dan pemutus lagi).
2. Jangan menelpon dalam kondisi hape di-charge. Karena akan menguras tenaga batere. Apalagi sampai hape menjadi panas karena terlalu lama menelpon. Tegangan yang masuk dari charger akan langsung dikeluarkan dalam jumlah yang besar sehingga akan membuat tabung batere menjadi panas dan menggelembung.
3. .Karena saat hape dinyalakan membutuhkan arus 0,4 ampere, kemudian saat hape mencari sinyal membutuhkan arus 0,4 ampere, lalu saat lampu menyala hape membutuhkan tegangan 0,3 ampere. Jadi jika terlalu sering menghidup-matikan hape dengan mencabut batere resiko batere akan cepat drop.
4. Hindari charging dengan charger imitasi. Kualitas yang tidak standar membuat batere menjadi cepat rusak. Karena arus yang berlebihan masuk ke batere tanpa dikontrol IC charger. Biasanya charger imitasi mengeluarkan arus yang tidak stabil.
5. Segera charge batere, jangan menunggu low-bat atau mati. Karena dapat membuat sel di tabung batere menjadi lemah dan vakum. Akhirnya batere jadi drop, bahkan rusak. Karena nilai DC turun drastis dari 3,6 volt menjadi 2 atau 1 volt. Jika dibawah 3,0 volt batere tidak dapat diisi arus lagi.

5 Kerusakan Batere yang Sering Terjadi

1. Batere menggelembung karena hubungan singkat atau korslet secara mendadak akibat terjatuh atau terendam air. Akibatnya isi batere terkuras dengan cepat sehingga tabung batere menjadi panas dan menggelembung.
2. Batere sering drop. Ada beberapa penyebab hal ini terjadi, diantaranya kualitas baterenya tidak bagus, faktor usia batere karena penurunan nilai mAh (tekanan arus DC), dan tejadi korslet.
3. Batere panas karena kerusakan pada plat pengatur suhu di dalam batere. Pada flat batere terdapat komponen yang berfungsi mengatur basar kecilnya tegangan arus yang masuk atau keluar. Kerusakan ini berakibat pasokan arus tidak normal dan membuat batere panas.
4. Batere tidak ada arus sama sekali karena hubungan singkat (korslet) di mesin hape yang berimbas pada batere. Batere biasanya tidak mempunyai sekring otomatis yang bisa memutus arus yang dikeluarkan. Penyebab lainnya karena batere tersebut sudah lama tidak digunakan atau di-charge.
5. Batere tidak dapat mengisi. Bisa disebabkan oleh hapenya atau penghubung hape ke batere yang kurang bahkan tidak terkoneksi dengan baik. Penyebab lainnya ada di chargernya.
